This dataset and R code are used in the study "Thirty years of arboreal wildlife trends in an African rainforest under evolving threats and researchers' presence". This study looked at long-term surveys of arboreal wildlife (primates, hornbills, and grey parrots) in the Dja Faunal Reserve from 1995 to 1999 and 2017 to 2024. Trails around the Bouamir Research Station were walked monthly and both visual and auditory detections of different species were recorded. We calculated a relative abundance index (RAI) of different species for each month by dividing the number of detections by the number of kilometers surveyed that month (each month is treated as one big transect). We fit Generalized Additive Models of the RAIs over time for each species to try to assess population trends.
