NSF GRFP Program - Giant Angstrom, NORDP 2017

We introduce an approach to winning NSF Graduate Research Fellowships based on narrative and plot theory. Success rates for participants at one university were 4X that of nonparticipants. To serve more students, we developed a method of training writing center consultants to support applicants. The method makes use of rhetorical concepts familiar to consultants, such that people without disciplinary knowledge can still coach effectively. We conclude with thoughts about the applicability of the method to train writing consultants to support faculty research proposals.

我们提出了一种基于叙事与情节理论的美国国家科学基金会（NSF）研究生研究奖学金申请制胜策略。某高校参训学员的申请成功率是非参训学员的4倍。为惠及更多学生群体，我们研发了一套面向写作中心顾问的培训方案，用于协助奖学金申请者完成申请。该方案依托顾问群体熟悉的修辞学概念，即便不具备特定学科专业知识的人员，也能借此开展高效指导。最后，我们探讨了该方案在培训写作顾问以协助教师撰写科研项目申报书方面的适用性。
