Tetramorium tsushimae (the Japanese pavement ant) is an omnivorous ant species which constructs a polygynous (multiple-queens) and nest under stones or underground. T. tsushimae is one of the most commonly encountered ants in southern and central Japan and introduced to North America, which is one of the few successful early stage ant invasions known.
