VPRS 18550 College Committee

This series consists of minutes of the College Committee from 1972 to 1981. The College Committee was the managing body of the Preston Technical College (VA 1212). During this period the College was a division of the Preston Institute of Technology, and the minutes are headed Preston Institute of Technology, however the College appears to have had some level of autonomy. The College became independent of the Institute at the end of 1981.The first meeting was held on 23rd October 1972 and the last meeting was held on 24th November 1981. Researchers should note there are references in the minutes to previous and later meetings, so the series may extend beyond these dates. The missing minutes may have been retained by Preston Technical College at St Georges Road, however this was unconfirmed at the time of transfer in April 2018.The minutes record the events, actions and decisions of the Committee regarding the management and control of the College. The Committee considered both academic and general administrative matters such as staffing, buildings and facilities, and equipment. The minutes also include reports from sub-committees, such as the Business Committee and the Planning Committee. The minutes also contain discussions on the future of the College and the possible separation of the College from the Institute.
