Up to September 1860 this series includes letters addressed to the Chief Commissioner of Crown Lands in addition to letters addressed to the Surveyor General as the two offices were held by the same person from October 1855 to September 1860.The letters addressed to the Chief Commissioner of Crown Lands include applications for the lease of Crown lands, gold-field returns, reports from Crown Lands Commissioners on new gold-fields, reports on the sale of leases and various salary abstracts.Letters addressed to the Surveyor General include Treasury reports on land bought under the right of pre-emption, letters from the Auditor General concerning vouchers for salary payments, letters from private persons requesting that land be put up for sale and progress reports and letters transmitting plans and descriptions from surveyors. From 1861 there are applications from private persons to purchase improved land under the Crown Lands Act 1861, 25 Vic no.1, applications for leases adjoining land held under pre-emptive right under the Crown Lands Occupation Act 1861, 25 Vic no.2. There are also applications to purchase sections of runs, Treasury notifications of amounts received on account of conditional purchases, and notifications of renewal of leases. There are reports from appraisers on the value of improvements, returns from Crown Land Agents of the numbers of timber licenses issued, notifications of the withdrawal of land from sale by auction and notification of payment of auction leases.The correspondence also includes applications from the National School Board for the issue of leases of grant for school sites. 本批往来函件还包含国家学校委员会（National School Board）关于划拨并租赁校址的申请。
