Xylan utilization by Roseburia intestinalis

Metabolism of dietary glycans is pivotal in shaping the human gut microbiota. This project entails elucidating the molecular basis of the utilization of the key dietary fiber xylan in the human gut commensal R. intestinalis. In this project we evaluated the competitiveness of this species in mixed cultures with the model xylan degrader Bacteroides ovatus and examined the role of oligosaccharide transporters in establishing competitive windows for each taxonomic group.
