Berberine inhibits obesity and insulin resistance associated with high-fat diet by regulating gut microbiota

Obesity induced by a high-fat diet (HFD) is often associated with gut microbial dysbiosis. In this study, C56BL/6 mice were randomly divided into four groups: low-fat diet group (LFD), low-fat diet plus berberine group (LFD+BBR), high-fat diet group (HFD), and high-fat diet plus berberine group (HFD+BBR). Mice in the LFD+BBR and HFD+BBR groups were given 200 mg/kg of berberine through drinking water for 10 weeks. Colonic contents were collected for microbiome analysis.
