VPRS 14546 Register of Applications, Melbourne, Sections 113 and 114 Land Act 1898 and Sections 146 and 147 Land Act 1901 (Occupation Branch)

This series consists of the register of applications relating to purchases and licences to occupy and use Crown land in the Melbourne Land District. This register was kept at the Occupation Branch of the Department of Crown Lands and Survey (VA 538).Details given are the number allocated the application, the name of the applicant, the parish and the area of land applied for and any decision made by the Local Land Board with respect to the application. The Remarks column was then used to record file and correspondence management information.Section 113 gave persons who had held licences to occupy under Section 99 of the Land Act 1890 and had made made improverments by erecting buildings the exclusive right to purchase those allotments with rent already paid being credited against the purchase price. Section 146 of the consolidated Land Act 1901 continued this right. Section 114 extended, under certain conditions, the same right to holders of forest land which had been held in undisturbed possession.Section 147 of the Land Act 1901 allowed licences to be granted for bee farms of one acre on Crown land or lands held under lease for pastoral or agricultural purposes. Licences were renewable annually.VPRS 14546 / P1 was previously registered as Unit 8 of VPRS 455 / P Application Registers, Land Act 1898.
