Complete genome sequence of Pomona leaf-nosed bat-associated polyomavirus 1. Pomona leaf-nosed bat-associated polyomavirus 1

We determined the complete genome sequence of a novel polyomavirus found in a nasal/rectal metagenome of a Pomona leaf-nosed bat. We used our viral discovery software on the SRA SRR2063883 library and found a previously unidentified circular 4,676 bp contig. Using BLASTX, we found that the contig had distant homology to the VP1 protein of black sea bass polyomavirus (BassPyV1, NC_025790). Subsequent analysis of the open-reading frames led to the identification of several ORFs normally found in polyomaviruses. Therefore, we named this complete genome Pomona leaf-nosed bat-associated polyomavirus 1 (PomBAPyV1).
