CULTURAL APPROACH BETWEEN UZBEKISTAN AND TURKMAN POPULATION IN THE BUKHARA OASIS

Abstract. This article examines the settlement of the Turkmen population throughout the Bukhara Oasis and the processes of assimilation between the Turkmens and the Uzbek population. A comparative analysis of the works of Ya. R. Vinnikov and B. Kh. Karmysheva is carried out, and their interpretations are evaluated in light of modern historiographical approaches that have emerged during the period of Uzbekistan's independence. In addition, based on ethnographic evidence, including the results of field research conducted in the Karakul District, the article explores the reasons for the migration of Turkmen tribes to the Bukhara Oasis, their involvement in agriculture, animal husbandry, and handicrafts, as well as their long-standing peaceful coexistence with the local population, which resulted in cultural and linguistic integration. The findings demonstrate that the assimilation of the Turkmen and Uzbek populations occurred naturally under the influence of socio-economic, cultural, and economic factors. Rather than being the outcome of coercive state policies, this process was the product of centuries of peaceful coexistence and mutual interaction.
