Parkes observations for project P1112 semester 2021APRS_01

We will observe a brown dwarf star, TVLM 513-46546, using the Parkes ultra-wide-bandwidth receiver. This will allow us to understand the spectral energy distribution of the radio pulses that repeat every 2 hours. This source is detectable at 4 GHz (the top end of the Parkes receiver band), but is not detectable at 1.4 GHz (near the bottom end). We will therefore be able to determine where the cut-off occurs. We will also continue the long-term monitoring of this source, which is now known to have a companion Saturn-mass planet.

本研究将利用帕克斯（Parkes）超宽带接收机对褐矮星TVLM 513-46546开展观测，借此可明确每两小时重复一次的射电脉冲的光谱能量分布特征。该源在4 GHz（帕克斯接收机频段的高端）可被探测，但在1.4 GHz（接近频段低端）处无法被探测到，因此我们能够确定该射电辐射的截止频率位置。此外，我们还将持续对该源开展长期监测——目前已知该源拥有一颗土星质量级的伴行星。
