Whole genome sequencing of the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), an alien invasive pest in China

The fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) is a severely destructive pest native to the Americas, but now becomes an alien invasive pest in China. It is urgent to understanding its genetic background to help make effective management strategies. In this study, the resequencing analysis of 8 populations in 6 locations is performed, which demonstrated the Chinese fall armyworm was most likely invaded from Africa.

草地贪夜蛾（Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith)）是原产于美洲的毁灭性农业害虫，现已成为我国的外来入侵害虫。明晰其遗传背景，进而制定科学有效的防控策略，实属当务之急。本研究对采集自6个地点的8个种群开展了重测序分析，结果证实我国的草地贪夜蛾最有可能由非洲传入。
