County Small Quantity Generators (SQG)

The date(s) displayed in the details section on our Open Data Portal is based on the last date the metadata was updated and not the refresh date of the data itself.* The legislature in 1983, recognizing the need for identifying the amount, type, sources and management of hazardous waste generated by small quantity generators of hazardous waste in the state and the need for responsible management of these wastes in order to protect the public health, safety, and welfare and the environment, established the Small Quantity Generator Assessment, Notification and Verification (SQG ANV Program) A small quantity generator of hazardous waste defined in federal law is a generator that produces less than 2,200 pounds of hazardous waste in any calendar month. The Department has adopted the federal hazardous waste regulations as state regulations. Hazardous Waste Management Assessments and Verification County governments are required to identify all known and potential small quantity generators of hazardous waste within the county and annually verify the waste management practices of at least 20% of these known and potential generators. The hazardous waste management assessments are renewed every five years. The Department has established a standard format for data collection and data submittal. The SQG ANV program includes, but not limited to, the identification of the following: All small quantity generators of hazardous waste within a county. The types and quantities of hazardous waste generated by small quantity generators within a county. Effective waste management practices for small quantity generators of hazardous waste. Hazardous Waste Notifications County governments are required to notify each small quantity generator identified on its assessment roll: Detail the legal responsibilities of the small quantity generator with regard to proper hazardous waste management practices, including penalties for non compliance. Include a list of hazardous waste management alternatives and available waste reduction opportunities. The SQG ANV program allows for local governments to develop their local hazardous waste programs that are consistent with state and federal hazardous waste laws. However, except as provided in this program, no local government law, ordinance, or rule pertaining to hazardous waste regulation may be more stringent that department rules adopted in Chapter 403[4].
