This dataset provides lake ice phenology data for 23 lakes in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region from 2001 to 2018, including the first freeze date, full freeze date, first break-up date, and full break-up date. It was derived using a dynamic threshold method from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) daily snow cover products, which underwent dual-satellite cloud removal and near-daily temporal cloud removal processing. The results exhibit consistent changing trends with the lake ice phenology dataset obtained via passive microwave observations. Lakes in Xinjiang typically start freezing from October to December each year and gradually undergo break-up between March and June, with an average lake ice cover duration of 167 days. This dataset can serve as a foundational data resource for studies on lake system responses to climate change in the Xinjiang region.
