Parkes observations for project P1059 semester 2020APRS_02

We propose to observe a sample of 22 pulsars at high Galactic latitudes with the Parkes Ultra-Wideband Low (UWL) receiver. This sample of pulsars does not have flux densities nor polarisation measured before. The goal is to characterise their wideband properties in polarisation, spectrum and interstellar scintillation. Such properties will help us develop imaging pulsar search techniques for future radio continuum surveys, such as with the Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP). Wideband spectrum, polarisation and scintillation of pulsars will also be useful for studies of pulsar radiation mechanism and interstellar medium at high Galactic latitudes.

我们提出借助帕克斯超宽带低（Ultra-Wideband Low, UWL）接收机，对22颗银道面高纬度脉冲星样本开展观测。该样本中的所有脉冲星此前均未被测量过流量密度与偏振特性。本研究的目标是刻画它们在偏振、频谱以及星际闪烁（interstellar scintillation）方面的宽带特性。此类特性将助力我们研发适用于未来射电连续谱巡天的成像式脉冲星搜寻技术，例如依托澳大利亚平方千米阵探路者（Australian SKA Pathfinder, ASKAP）开展的巡天项目。脉冲星的宽带频谱、偏振特性与星际闪烁数据，同样可用于研究脉冲星辐射机制以及银道面高纬度区域的星际介质。
