The five largest clusters identified in Leishmania spp. also were identified in <em>L. amazonensis</em>: amastin-like proteins (Cluster 1), dyneins (Cluster 2) glycoprotein GP63 (Cluster 3), ATP-binding cassette protein (Cluster 4), and histone H4 (Cluster 5). Seven copies of the tuzin gene and three of the amastin genes are among the unique genes of L. amazonensis and biological processes related to symbiont modulation of the host process and membrane transport are enriched between genes encoding proteins with unknown function.
