Sediment Data in Lake Hazen, Quttinirpaaq National Park, Northern Ellesmere Island, Nunavut

Due to climate change there is significant increase in glacial melt in Lake Hazen watershed which results in significant increases in inputs of water and sediments to the lake. These changes are altering water quality and biogeochemical processes in Lake Hazen. The goal of this study is to collect and analyze sediment cores from throughout Lake Hazen for various biogeochemical processes. These cores will provide a long-term record of environmental change such as trends in long-range atmospheric transport and deposition of contaminants, rates of glacial melt in the Lake Hazen watershed, and changes in algal community composition over time in Lake Hazen.
