The northern boundary of the Tibetan Plateau is a new focus of contemporary debate concerning continental plateau formation as an intracontinental reponse to collisional orogency.Recent geological studies and limited geophysical measurements in this region have been cited to argue that a-uplife is due to internal imbricate stacking of Asian crust while b-Asian continental lithospherie is being detached and subducted into the underlying mantle. Such models contrast with competing paradigm derived primarily from observations in southern and eastern portions of the Plateau that attributes plateau formation ductile flow in the deep crust. This experiment is testing key elements in these hypothesis with a 2D passive source array with a very large aperture (700 by 800km)

青藏高原北缘是当前关于大陆高原形成(作为碰撞造山作用的陆内响应)的学术争论新焦点。近期针对该区域开展的地质研究与有限地球物理测量结果被用于支撑两类观点:其一,高原抬升源于亚洲地壳内部的逆冲叠置作用;其二,亚洲大陆岩石圈发生拆沉并俯冲到下伏地幔之中。此类模型与主要基于青藏高原南部和东部观测结果提出的竞争性范式形成鲜明对比,后者将高原形成归因于下地壳的韧性流动。本实验采用孔径达700×800km的超大孔径二维被动源阵列,对上述假说的核心要素进行验证。
