Lab 2, BIO 2050, Section: 05

Ten adult Silver Maple trees were located in the York University Woodlot area. An adult tree was considered over twelve feet. A quantative analysis of the Silver Maple diameter was obtained by measuring a transect tape measure all the way around the trunk at breast heigh and recorded in centimeters. The canopy coverage of this each tree was determined by creating a square shape with our thumbs and index fingers and holding it up to the sky. The amount of canopy within this square was estimated. The nearest sapling Silver Maple to the adult Silver Maple tree was located and the distance was measure by placing a transect tape measure along the ground between both trees, the value was recorded in centimeters. The diameter of the sapling Silver Maple was determined by wrapping the transect tape measure around the sapling trunk as close to the ground as possible, the value was recorded in centimeters.
