Data used in publication "<i>Restoration thinning accelerates small tree growth but slows large tree growth in a multi-age flood-dependent forest"</i>. Data were collected in river red gum forests in Murray Valley National Park, Australia, between 2015 and 2021. Data include diameter at breast height (diameter.mm) for 1980 trees measured to the nearest mm approximately annually (time elapsed between survey dates in decimal years, years.elapsed). For multi-stemmed trees, diameter.mm was calculated by taking square root of the sum of each diameter squared. Data also include information about long-term water availability (site.quality) and short-term water availability (mean annual river flow through the upstream Yarrawonga weir, meanflo). Two-thirds of sites were subject to restoration thinning treatments and the data include the count of trees per hectare prior to thinning (initdensity) and the proportion of initial trees per hectare that were removed by thinning (pthin).
