Hybrid atypical Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli: aEPEC/ExPEC and aEPEC/UPEC isolated from diarrhea. Escherichia coli

Diarrhea is the second leading cause of child deaths. According to WHO, in the past, the deaths were due to severe dehydration and fluid loss; nowadays, septic bacterial infections are likely to account for an increasing proportion of all diarrhea-associated deaths. This project presents the genomes of atypical Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (aEPEC), isolated from diarrhea, which display virulence factors of Extraintestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli, to address the possible role of this type of pathogen to elicit sepsis after diarrhea.
