A sustainable smart tourism ecosystem relies on building digital networks that link tourists to destinations. This study explores how web and immersive technologies, such as the VRRO platform, can improve tourism by offering interactive experiences to augment traditional travel. An empirical study investigates user engagement and highlights how it promotes social interaction and user participation while adapting to the evolving tourism landscape. Participants were provided with access to the VRRO platform and asked to interact with it for a comfortable duration. Post-interaction, participants completed the feedback questionnaire consisting of the demographic questions (age, prior engagement with such technologies, interest, platform of use), the short form of the UES, module-specific rating of platform functionalities, self-rating of users’ activity, future engagement prospects, and impressions (open-ended questions). Rating or self-scoring questions’ answers are in the form of 5-point Likert scales, with values corresponding to the context. For example, ‘How often did you upload virtual tours’ would have the answers ‘Never’, ‘Once’, ‘Twice or thrice’, ‘Multiple times’, or ‘Often’. Their feedback is recorded and analyzed to draw insights. The survey contains: 6 demographic questions, 12 questions offering an overall rating of the platform with the short form of the User Engagement Scale (5-point Likert scale), 6 questions rating user satisfaction using specific modules of the platform (5-point Likert scale); 8 self-rating questions of the activity and interactions within the VRRO platform (equivalents of 5-point Likert scale); 4 questions on the preferred technological access of the platform and of the Virtual Tours module; 6 questions self-rating possible future engagement; and 5 open-ended questions focusing on VRRO's key functionalities and scope. Description of the data and file structure: The data is available in .XLSX and .CSV formats. The first column header represents the timestamp of the submitted answer, and the following columns contain the survey questions and answers. Each row corresponds to a different user entry.
