The variety and abundance of different insects found in grasslands vs. woodlots

The purpose of this experiment was to determine the variety and abundance of different insects found in different habitats – in this case, grasslands versus woodlots – and what colour these insects may be more attracted to. This was done by laying down pan traps along a transect in random areas of the Saywell Woodlot and the grassland east of Stong Pond. A triad consisting of one yellow, blue, and white solo bowl filled with soapy water was placed every 5m along the transect for a total of 3 triads in the grassland and 3 triads in the woodlot (18 pan traps in total). All pan traps were placed at 3pm on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 and picked back up again 4:45pm that same day. When picking up the pan traps, the number of orders and number of insects per order in each pan trap as well as the total number of insects were recorded.

本实验旨在探究不同生境（本研究中为草原与林地）中发现的各类昆虫的种类与丰度，以及这些昆虫更偏好的颜色。实验通过在塞韦尔林地（Saywell Woodlot）与斯通池塘（Stong Pond）东侧草原的随机区域内沿样带（transect）布设盆式诱捕器（pan traps）开展。沿样带每5米布设一组由装有肥皂水的黄色、蓝色、白色单碗诱捕器组成的三联诱捕单元，其中草原布设3组、林地布设3组，总计18个盆式诱捕器。所有盆式诱捕器均于2014年9月30日周二下午3时布设，并于当日下午4时45分收回。收回盆式诱捕器时，需记录每个诱捕器内的昆虫目级类群数量、每类目级昆虫的个体数，以及昆虫总个体数。
