Dataset for the paper:Predictors of metabolic syndrome among teachers in under-resourced schools in South Africa: Baseline findings from the KaziHealth workplace health intervention. This dataset accompanies the manuscript submitted to PLOS Global Public Health. It provides the data used to explore the prevalence and predictors of metabolic syndrome (MetS) among teachers in under-resourced schools in Gqeberha, South Africa. The study assessed the association between MetS and modifiable risk factors of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including physical inactivity, tobacco and alcohol use, and unhealthy dietary intake. Dataset structure File name: ds_pred_mets_teachers_sa Number of rows: 168 (representing teachers) Number of variables: 39 Format: RData (for use in R statistical software) and CSV (comma-separated values for universal access) README file included with detailed variable descriptions Key variables include: Demographics: age, sex, race, education, socio-economic status Metabolic syndrome markers: BMI, waist circumference, blood pressure, triglycerides, HDL cholesterol, glycated haemoglobin Lifestyle factors: physical activity (ENMO, MVPA), tobacco use, alcohol use, dietary intake (fat, sugar, sodium) LicensingThis dataset is shared under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC-BY 4.0) license.
