Genome sequence of aod1 mutant derived from Arabidopsis thaliana Zu-0

We previously found that a salt-tolerant Arabidopsis accession containing Zu-0 showed osmotic tolerance after salt acclimation, while the experimental accession Col-0 did not. We isolated acquired osmotolerance-deficient 1 (aod1), a mutant highly sensitive to osmotic stress, from ion beam-irradiated seeds of Zu-0, an Arabidopsis accession known for its remarkably high osmotolerance. The aod1 exhibits growth inhibition with spotted necrotic lesions on the rosette leaves under normal growth conditions on soil. While aod1 exhibits high sensitivity to osmotic stress, it shows similar tolerance to salt and oxidative stresses as the wild type (WT). Genetic and genome sequencing analyses suggested that the causal gene of aod1 is identical to CONSTITUTIVELY ACTIVATED CELL DEATH 1 (CAD1).
