We propose to measure relativistic corrections to theSunyaevZel.dovich effect (rSZ) in two clusters of galaxies withSPIREFTS, providing measurements of the intracluster medium (ICM)temperature with virgul30 arcsec spatial resolution. For the first time,these measurements will enable: 1) unambiguous, high significancemeasurement of the rSZ correction, and 2) precise determination of thetemperature substructure of extremely hot clusters. Both measurementsare technically feasible with SPIREFTS and are inaccessible in anyother way. The value our proposed observations for demonstrating theability to measure the temperature of ICM substructures in massive,complex clusters is enormous, both for cosmological applications(i.e. a precise and unbiased determination of the total mass ofclusters) and for astrophysical applications (untangling the complexatmosphere of clusters using SZ).
