The aim of this survey was to identify specific management education needs of senior staff in Queensland Regional Health Authorities and private hospitals. The results would be used to assist in developing a co-ordinated strategic response to meet the identified needs. The survey asked for staff members' opinions about problems in trying to obtain professional management development, assistance needed to adress these problems, perceived importance of different areas of development, preferred channels for receiving continuing professional education, willingness to spend time on such education, and interest in a mutual support program. Background variables included the respondent's age, geographical location,position in his/her occupation, highest level of education completed, membership of professional collecges or associations, and current efforts to obtain further qualifications.
