Each six sequences were newly determined in this study. Molecular data from over 56 taxa of the Bangiales worldwide including previously published sequences, indicated that monophyly for the genera Bangia and Porphyra is not supported, as in previous molecular studies.
Nuclear SSU rDNA, plastid rbcL and mitochondrial cox1 gene sequences were investigated for the Bangiales from the Antarctica and its adjacent waters.
