This dataset presents results from an extensive field study conducted to investigate the impacts of dam construction on the hydrology and resulting ecosystem changes within the Kafue Flats, a seasonal wetland ecosystem in Zambia. The study also addresses the population decline of the endangered Kafue lechwe antelope (01_historic_lechwe_numbers.csv) .Over the course of one year (2010-2011), we monitored the seasonal dynamics of the ecosystem and examined how these changes affect the movement patterns and habitat use of the Kafue lechwe, the dominant grazing herbivore in the area. The dataset includes spatially and temporally explicit quantitative data on:Annual variation in hydrology (02_Kafue_river_waterlevels_March2010-April2011.csv)Grass biomass and nutrient stocks (03_Grass_biomass&foliar_nutrients_all_habitats_individual_plots.csv)Distribution of Kafue lechwe across different habitats (04_Percent_Lechwe_per_habitat_with_other_variables.csv)Nutritional status of the lechwe population (05_Lechwe_dung_N&P_individual_samples.csv)Additional available data include:Ground truth data used to create contemporary (2013) maps of Lochinvar National Park (06_2013_ground_truth_data.zip).Historical (1970) and contemporary (2013) maps of the extent, distribution and composition of the major wetland and dryland habitats in the pre-and post-dam periods (after 1977) (07_Lochinvar_maps_1970s-2013.zip)Data on water levels in Kafue river compared to water levels in the Kafue Flats (08_Kafue_river_waterlevels_vs_waterlevel_measurements&elevation.csv) and effect of shrub cover of D. cinerea on grass biomass (09_Dichrostachys_impact_on_grass_biomass.csv) used to produce supplementary figures S1 and S8, respectively.Detailed methods are available in Blaser-Hart et al.
