Data Management & Curation Services: Exploring Stakeholders Opinions (Fall 2012)

The purpose of the research study was to explore stakeholders’ opinions on select data management and curation services issues that currently affect all disciplines. A data management and curation services 10-questions survey questionnaire was developed and administered to select data management and curation promoters (funders), stakeholders (institutions), and users (evaluators) from November 5, 2012 to December 5, 2012. The survey was approved by the Florida State University Institutional Review Board (IRB) and assigned the HSC No. 2012.9198 on November 2, 2012. The survey was started by 64 participants, completed by 53, and garnered an 83% completion rate. The survey’s findings from the data management and curation key concepts category lead to the development of the data management and curation (DMC) framework. The preliminary study included questions on the four key concepts of data management, elements of a data management plan, theoretical frameworks/perspectives, and data seal of approval assessment guidelines. The survey participants included stakeholders representing funding agencies, institutions, users, publisher, and non-profit organizations within and outside of the USA. The findings served as a preliminary study for dissertation research on exploring the data management and curation (DMC) practices of scientists in research labs within a research university due to be published in 2014.

本研究旨在探索利益相关者对当前影响各学科的数据管理与整理服务相关议题的看法。研究者开发了一套包含10个问题的数据管理与整理服务调查问卷，于2012年11月5日至12月5日期间，面向遴选出的数据管理与整理推动者（资助方）、利益相关者（机构）与用户（评估者）开展调研。该问卷于2012年11月2日获得佛罗里达州立大学机构审查委员会（Institutional Review Board, IRB）批准，编号为HSC No. 2012.9198。本次调研共有64名参与者启动作答，最终53人完成全部问卷，问卷完成率达83%。基于数据管理与整理核心概念类别的调研结果，研究者构建了数据管理与整理（Data Management and Curation, DMC）框架。本预研究的调研问题涵盖数据管理四大核心概念、数据管理计划要素、理论框架/研究视角以及数据认证评估指南。本次调研的参与者包括来自美国境内外的资助机构、科研机构、用户、出版商及非营利组织的利益相关方代表。本研究结果作为预实验，为2014年拟发表的学位论文研究提供支撑，该论文旨在探索研究型大学内科研实验室中科研人员的数据管理与整理（DMC）实践情况。
