Spatiotemporal shifts in microbial biogeochemical cycling in San Francisco Bay. Estuarine Metagenome-Assembled Genomes

In the San Francisco Bay estuary, sedimentary microbes are key players in carbon and nutrient cycling, as well as processing human-derived inputs to the estuary. Here we obtained 639 MAGs from the mouth of the Sacramento River to the South Bay during four seasons over 2 years. This is the first large scale, spatiotemporal, and genome-resolved characterization of microbial communities in an urbanized estuary.
