Mtb Barcodes from SIV-infected, ART-treated and SIV-naive pediatric MCM

In this study, we utilized two cohorts of pediatric Mauritian cynomolgus macaques (MCM) to examine differences in the host immune response to Mycobacterium tuberculosis between SIV-infected, ART-treated MCM, and their SIV-naive counterparts. We utilized a molecularly barcoded Mtb Erdman strain to examine how the number, frequency, and distribution of uniquely tagged Mtb bacilli was impacted by a pre-existing SIV infection. Cumulatively, this study provides evidence that SIV-infected, ART-treated pediatric MCM have similar T cell responses when compared to SIV-naive animals, and that SIV infection did not significantly impact the composition of Mtb populations.
