Mature Megakaryocytes Acquire Immune Characteristics in a Mouse Model of Aplastic Anemia

Results: Megakaryocytes gain immune characteristics over the course of murine bone marrow failure; Megakaryocytes with immune characteristics serve as antigen-presenting cells and suppress hematopoietic stem cell function. Conclusion: Our results demonstrate the acquisition of immune functions by mature megakaryocytes in an alloimmune context. Overall design: We compared transcriptomes of enriched megakaryocytes and other hematopoietic cells from bone marrow failure mice with those from normal control mice.
