资源简介:
The national power grid of Nigeria is composed primarily of 132 kV long-range transmission lines carrying electricity produced at 26 power stations to commercial and residential areas throughout the state. The system is incredibly antiquated as a result of mismanagement and neglect during the era of military rule. As a consequence, fewer than 50 percent of Nigerians are actually connected to the national power grid and private power generation exceeds public production and transmission. Per capita electrical consumption in Nigeria is among the lowest in the world at 155kWh; for purpose of comparison, this figure is just 7 percent of Brazil’s consumption and 3 percent of South Africa’s. Of the electricity that is produced, nearly 45 percent is loss during transmission due to dilapidated infrastructure. In March 2005, the National Assembly passed the Electric Power Sector Reform Act, allowing private companies to invest and operate power-related companies in Nigeria. This law has permitted competitive bidding not only for management of power plants, but also for the construction of new transmission lines throughout Nigeria. Upon election in 2011, President Goodluck Jonathan announced that expanding power generation and transmission would be his number one priority for his term as a component of his ‘Transformation Agenda.
