Agronomic evaluation and straw production of barley varieties cultivated in Italy during the 2024/2025 crop season.

Agronomical data for barley varieties selected for barley straw production was collected. These varieties are predominantly high-yielding genotypes that are widely cultivated across Europe, particularly in major barley-producing regions. In addition, the panel included some older varieties characterized by high protein content and contrasting lignin concentration in the straw. This selection was designed to provide a broad range of straw characteristics for the optimization of barley straw conversion into bio-based products. The field trials were performed at the main experimental station of SIS in San Lazzaro di Savena (BO), Italy in 2025.
