Identification of Bioactive Components with Potential Anticancer Activity from Malaysian King Cobra Venom (Ophiophagus bungarus) in Human Colon Cancer Cells

Colorectal cancer is a major global killer, prompting the search for new treatments. This study investigated the venom of the Malaysian king cobra (O. bungarus) for its anti-cancer potential. We identified key proteins that could be used for treatment of colon cancer cells through purification of fractions exhibiting active cytotoxicity. Through purification and analysis, we identified L-amino acid oxidase (LAAO) as the primary cancer-killing component. This study establishes the venom's potential as a valuable source for developing novel colon cancer therapies.
