Staghorn Sumac tree canopy cover, DBH, distance between adult and sapling

Data was collected at the Dan Ianuzzi Park at York University on September 21 2015. A transact was used to mark the boundaries in which individual Staghorn Sumac trees, both adult and sapling, were examined. The diameter at the breast (DBH) of both the adults and the nearest saplings of Staghorn Sumac was measured in centimeters (cm) using a 50 meter measuring tape. Following that, the distance between the adult Staghorn Sumac and the nearest sapling of that adult Staghorn Sumac was measured in cm. The canopy coverage of the adult Staghorn Sumac was measured holding both the hands of the researcher in a square and estimated the percentage of the foliage of the Staghorn Sumac that covered the square. Adult sizes were any Staghorn Sumac 6 feet or higher, any Staghorn lower than 6 feet was considered to be a sapling.
