Maximizing Success in the Military: A Network Analysis of Training and Post-Training Excellence

The present study examines the factors associated with a successful military career, with a particular focus on the values and personal characteristics of Army cadets and regular commissioned officers. A fundamental objective of the Army is to ensure the success of its personnel, thereby enhancing their retention. This can be achieved through proactive measures that begin with the careful selection of individuals who are well-suited to the military context. Incorporating the study of values and personal characteristics into the selection process would offer advantages from two perspectives: in the short term, reducing turnover within military training programs, and in the long term, identifying personal attributes that foster sustained growth throughout the career. By addressing both immediate retention and forthcoming career development, military organizations can better prepare cadets for the challenges ahead, ensuring smoother integration and a more successful, fulfilling career among current and future military leaders. The study employs network analysis to comprehensively interpret the complex relational models that influence success, which traditional statistical methods might not fully capture. Exploring the differences and similarities between the two networks, the research provides valuable insights that help identify key factors influencing military leaders' success, starting from training institutions and extending throughout their entire career path.
