Pulsars in compact binary systems are unique laboratories to probe gravitational theories, measure pulsar masses and study the formation and evolution of binary systems. However, such binary systems are difficult to find because of their orbital modulation. New surveys at both radio and optical wavelengths open up new opportunities to search for pulsars in compact binaries with novel methods. In this proposal, we combined radio continuum surveys with the Gaia DR2 catalogue, and identified a sample of pulsar candidates based on their optical-radio association, large transverse velocities and steep spectra. We propose to search for their periodic singles with Parkes UWL receiver. Thanks to the superior performance of UWL below 1GHz, we will be able to detect their periodic signals with relatively short integration and avoid the effect of potential strong orbital modulation.
