Remote sensing satellites equipped with multispectral sensors, synthetic aperture radars (SAR) and other devices can acquire image information of sea ice distribution and morphology, thereby identifying sea ice types and their distribution ranges. Remote sensing satellites fitted with infrared sensors and similar equipment can obtain surface temperature data of sea ice, reveal temperature variations and thermal states of sea ice, and thus infer sea ice stability and melting rates. Remote sensing satellites equipped with radar systems and other devices can penetrate ice surfaces via radar beams to acquire sea ice thickness data, and understand the accumulation and ablation processes of sea ice. Remote sensing satellites can conduct periodic observations of sea ice changes. By comparing images and data acquired at different time phases, the variation trends and dynamic processes of sea ice can be elucidated. This facilitates a better understanding of the causes and trends of sea ice changes, and provides data support for polar expeditions, marine ecological conservation and other related fields.
