Background: During lockdown, frontline workers in the food industry, healthcare and research or clinical organizations were required to work on site where they were at a risk of high exposure to SARS-CoV-2 infections from public interaction.
Aims of the original study: The RESPECT COVID study aimed to 1) determine the asymptomatic transmission of COVID-19 in food production facilities during the pandemic; 2) monitor antibody development and immunity trends over time, and 3) evaluate participants' vaccine uptake and immune responses.
Methods: Employees from various food production facilities in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) were enrolled in this cohort study regardless of the presence or absence of COVID-19 symptoms. Blood samples were collected at multiple timepoints to understand the longitudinal trend of antibodies induced by infection and vaccination in this population and the influence on COVID-19 transmission.
Summary of the contributed data: The datasets include a total of 5,020 serology samples from 718 participants between January 2020 and December 2021. 508 participants (70%) have linked baseline characteristics data (completed survey). Variables include data in the following areas of information: demographic (age, gender, ethnicity and indigeneity, occupation), general health (symptoms, diseases, previous test, hospitalization), SARS-CoV-2 vaccination and serology.
