The study investigated the cyanobacteria growth season in Lake Mindel (Mindelsee), Germany in 2019. We characterized a Planktothrix spp. bloom in fall (September and October) of 2019 with concomitant toxic microcystin (MC) production and trophic transfer of cyanobacteria toxins. The remaining cyanobacteria community was dominated by Synechococcus/Cyanobium spp. with a strikingly high sequence overlap with the adjacent Lake Constance.
