Example 6.1 - Bangsawan Syair

Opening musical item from the bangsawan performance "Sultan Mahmud Riayat Syah" at the Festival of Malay Civilisation (Tamadun Festival Melayu) held in September 2013 in Tanjungpinang, the capital of Riau Islands Province (known as Kepri). The bangsawan troupe, Sanggar Seni Diram Perkase, call this musical item a syair. Each scene is preceded by the syair which uses the same melody but different lyrics, in 4-line verse form, that describe the action about to take place on stage. During the rendition of the syair, the theatre hall is in darkness until the final strains of the lagu dua or faster closing section that cues the opening of the curtain and lighting up of the stage.The original audiovisual recording is held in the Music Archive of Monash University

本数据集收录2013年9月于廖内群岛省（简称Kepri）首府丹戎槟榔举办的马来文明节（Tamadun Festival Melayu）上，班萨旺（bangsawan）戏剧《苏丹马哈茂德·里亚亚特·沙》（Sultan Mahmud Riayat Syah）的开场曲目。参演剧团为桑加尔·塞尼·迪拉姆·佩尔卡斯（Sanggar Seni Diram Perkase），该团将此类曲目称为赛伊尔（syair）。每一幕开场前均会演奏赛伊尔：其旋律固定统一，歌词随场景更迭而变化，采用四行诗体，用于铺垫舞台即将呈现的剧情。在赛伊尔演奏期间，剧场全程保持昏暗，直至拉古杜阿（lagu dua，即快板收尾段）的最终乐句奏响，届时将开启幕布并点亮舞台。本数据集的原始音视频录像馆藏于莫纳什大学音乐档案馆。
