Susquehanna Shale Hills Critical Zone Observatory - Cole Farm groundwater surface water chemistry 2018

A series of seven wells were drilled to depths of ~2 m (shallow) and ~4.5 m (deep) within and along the tree lines of a forested area in central Cole Farm. This forest is located between two agriculturally active fields on steep slopes. Wells were drilled in pairs, each pair consisting of one deep and one shallow well. A single shallow well was drilled within the interior of the forest (CFW10), and the rest were drilled along the tree lines. Nine surface water sampling sites were established, 6 of which sampled along a rivulet that flowed through the central forest. One surface site (CFUSpring) sampled the source of a perennial spring, and another (SCCF) sampled a tributary called Shaver’s Creek. All samples were analyzed for anions and cations using ion chromatography methods.

在科尔农场（Cole Farm）中部的一片林区及其林缘带内，共钻设7口监测井，井深分别约为2米（浅层井）与4.5米（深层井）。该林区坐落于两处耕作农田之间的陡坡地带。监测井以成对形式布设，每组均包含一口浅层井与一口深层井。另有一口浅层井钻设于林区内部（编号CFW10），其余监测井均沿林缘带布设。本次研究共设置9个地表水采样点位，其中6个点位布设于贯穿林区中部的溪流经岸区域。1个采样点位（CFUSpring）用于采集一处常年泉的源头水样，另1个点位（SCCF）则采集名为谢弗溪（Shaver’s Creek）的支流的水样。所有样品均采用离子色谱法（ion chromatography）对阴离子与阳离子进行检测分析。
