Sludge samples were taken from various wastewater treatment plants for studying the relationship between environmental factors and microbial communities. Microbial species were determined by sequencing amoA gene, which is a functional marker gene that also reveals phylogeny. This study provides insights into the nitrification process by ammonia oxidizing bacteria.
