The proposed experiments will provide neutron total-scattering data for elucidating the nanoscale ordering of polar atomic displacements that underlie the commercially viable piezoelectric properties in a classical oxide ferroelectric system. These materials find use in applications ranging from sonar transducers in naval radar systems to fuel injectors in diesel automobile engines. The currently missing detailed knowledge of atomic arrangements is required to facilitate the design of new formulations with the improved piezoelectric performance.
本研究拟开展的实验将提供中子全散射(neutron total-scattering)数据,用以阐明经典氧化物铁电体体系中,赋予其商用级压电性能的极性原子位移的纳米级有序结构。此类材料的应用场景覆盖广泛,从海军雷达系统中的声呐换能器,到柴油汽车发动机的燃油喷射器均有涉及。目前学界尚未掌握此类材料原子排布的详细细节,而该细节正是开发压电性能更优异的新型配方所不可或缺的核心支撑。
