The cultivated tomato (Solanum lycospersicum) odorless-2 (od-2) mutant is defective in typical leaf volatiles. Genetic regulation of this trait is not well known. Comparison of differential gene regulation in leaves of od-2 and the wild-type (Castlemart) grown under growth chamber conditions may provide insights into processes and metabolism that are disrupted in the mutant and vital for the production of volatile terpenoid compounds.
