Previous studies have shown that French populations of the grey mould pathogen Botrytis cinerea infecting tomato and grapevine are differentiated (doi:10.1111/1462-2920.12563), and that pathogens from the two populations have higher aggressiveness on their host of origin than on other hosts, confirming host specialization in this highly polyphagous pathogen (doi: 10.1111/1462-2920.14829). Here, we aimed to identify the genomic features underlying the specialization of B. cinerea to tomato and grapevine. Based on whole genome sequences of 32 isolates, we confirmed the subdivision of B. cinerea pathogens into two clusters on grapevine, and a single emerging cluster on tomato.
