The purpose of an admission register was to record basic details about children admitted to the school, and about their parents or guardians. The registers were also used to record the progress of the children through various classes and the date of their leaving the school.The series from Neath Public School is currently represented by a single volume, which is the final volume of the series. This volume includes records of enrolments from 1939 until 1971, but those entries dating from before June, 1947 are retrospective, and include only those enrolments still current at that time. The volume contains information pertaining to each pupil including: date of admission; pupil's name, date of birth, and religious denomination; name of previous school and date of leaving. The following details are recorded about the child's parents or guardians: name, residence and occupation. The pupil's date of admission to each subsequent grade, date of leaving the school and any occupation entered into on leaving school are also recorded; this last column is also commonly used to record the school to which a pupil may have transferred.Girls and boys are listed on opposite pages in order of admission, and numbered in two separate sequences, which commence at the beginning of the volume. Each sequence is continuous until the end of 1949, after which a new system of numbering is introduced, under which the numbering begins anew with each new school year, and each entry number has the last two digits of the year number added as a suffix. Distinct sequences for girls and boys are retained until the end of 1969, after which boys’ and girls’ entries for each year form one sequence for numbering purposes.Each page of the first opening of the volume bears the note “Transcribed from Old Register – 14/6/47.” . The entry-numbers which the transcribed boys’ entries bore in the previous volume have been added alongside the new numbering in pencil; this has not been done for the girls’ entries.

男生与女生的登记信息按入学顺序分别列于对页,且采用两套独立的编号序列,编号从本卷开篇即开始计数。两套编号序列均持续使用至1949年底,自1950年起启用新的编号规则:每学年重新开始编号,且每条登记项的编号后添加对应学年年份的后两位作为后缀。男女学生各自独立的编号序列持续至1969年底,自1970年起,同一年份的男女学生登记项合并为一套编号序列。
本卷首次展开的两页均标注有“转录自旧登记册——1947年6月14日(Transcribed from Old Register – 14/6/47.)”字样。原旧登记册中男生登记项的原有编号已以铅笔形式标注在新编号旁,但女生登记项未进行此项标注。
