Section 22 of the Amending Land Act 1865 set out the conditions for the assignment (under a will or letters of administration) or transfer of a lease of agricultural lands proclaimed and made available for selection under the Land Act 1862. This assignment or transfer had to be registered with the Board of Land and Works or at a suitable land office as designated by the Board and a fee of one pound had to be paid.Under the Land Act 1869, selectors could obtain leases for up to seven years on land previously licensed under Section 19 of the Act. These leases in the same way could be assigned or transferred or portion of the land could be sub-let to another person. All of these transactions had to be registered, with the designated fee paid before they would be recognised as legal occupation of the land.The volume in VPRS 1318/P records registrations of assignments and transfers in relation to both Section 22 of the Amending Land Act 1865 (for 1868 - 1879) and Section 20 Land Act 1869 (for 1874 - 1879). Details entered were the person from whom the lease was being transferred, the person to whom it was being transferred, details of the area of land and allotment and section, the parish, where the transfer was registered, the date, any reference numbers and details of the date and place of the payment of the fee. Entries relating to Section 22 Amending Land Act 1865 also named the designated agricultural area.The volume in VPRS 1318/P1 gave the additional information of the occupation of the person to whom the lease was transferred, the date when the transfer was sanctioned by the Governor, the number of the Executive Council papers and the Government Gazette reference. At the back of the volume are details of registered Sub-Leases, giving the same details.VPRS 1318/P1 was previously registered as VPRS 1297/P unit 2.
